The company was founded in 1995 by José Antonio Llorente and Olga Cuenca, taking their business name from the combination of the surnames of both founders. In 1998 the firm opened its first offices in Latin America, a subsidiary in Lima, Peru.
In 2006 the firm developed a partnership with AMO. The following year, they opened a regional office in Mexico. Later, they expanded to the United States, focusing on American businesses working in Latin America. The US affiliate of Llorente in 2009 was EDF Communications.〔http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-215187665.html〕 In 2008 Llorente & Cuenca entered the Chinese market, focusing on Chinese businesses doing business in Portugal, Spain, and Latin America, in a similar strategy to that it used in the US. In 2008 Llorente & Cuenca began operating in Brazil. According to an investigation by the newspaper Expansion published in 2013, Llorente & Cuenca have edited the Spanish Wikipedia article about Repsol following the nationalization of YPF in Argentina, calling the government expropriation "unconstitutional" and deleting content in the article on opinions that supported the nationalization.
